Located 6 km from the campground, Tarragona is the ancient Roman city of Tarraco, one of the most important cities of the ancient Mediterranean. The city of Tarragona and the Cistercian monastery of Poblet, both designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offer a comprehensive range of cultural and recreational activities. Its archaeological complex—including the amphitheater overlooking the sea, the Roman circus, the praetorium, the city walls, and the Ferreres Aqueduct—has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
Don’t miss the Santa Tecla Festival (September 23), with its castellers (human towers) and giants that have been filling the streets since 1321. In the heart of Reus, Catalonia’s second-largest city, lies the Gaudí Center, the best center for exploring Gaudí’s work, featuring a model of Park Güell that is sure to impress you and help you discover the secrets and life of the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí.
A great way to explore, the Route des Génies connects four must-see sites: the Pau Casals House-Museum in El Vendrell, the Mas Miró in Mont-Roig, the Gaudí Center in Reus, and the Picasso Center in Horta de Sant Joan. Discover the wonders of the Ebro Delta and the Costa Dorada
From the coast to the Montsant mountain range, the Costa Dorada is home to protected natural areas that offer unique landscapes, such as the Ebro Delta—just an hour’s drive from the campground—which is the second-largest wetland in the western Mediterranean after the Camargue in Provence, France.
It features freshwater and brackish-water lagoons, large dunes, wide bays, and vast stretches of riparian forests. The lagoons of La Tancada and L’Encanyisada, the salt flats of San Carles de la Ràpita, river islands such as Buda, Alfacs Bay, and the headlands of Fangar and Banya form a highly diverse landscape, rich in birdlife and riparian vegetation.
It is a region of great beauty, with rice paddies and oyster and mussel farms in the natural environment of the lower Ebro River.
To understand the magic of the delta, you can visit the Ebro Delta MónNatura, located in the Tancada Lagoon, where salt, traditional fishing, and birdwatching are the three main themes of this center, which specializes in raising awareness about the delta’s biodiversity.

Finally, closer to the campground, the province’s vineyards are another treasure waiting to be explored—the perfect opportunity for a wine-tasting vacation in Spain. Six designations of origin —Tarragona, Priorat, Montsant, Conca de Barberà, Penedès, and Terra Alta—bear witness to winemaking expertise inherited from the Romans and perfected by Cistercian monks in the Middle Ages, an expertise to be discovered on the Ruta del Cister (Ruta del Cister). Wineries open to visitors for tours and tastings dot the roads of the Catalan hinterland.
